Why?

Have you ever wondered why? Why are leaves green? Why do cats purr? Why aren't we happy?

Why is the most singularly asked question that our world has revolved around. When you have a question where do you go to find the answer? I use the internet most of the time, books second and asking lastly. I go onto the net to find out everything from medical advice to how to clean something. It is not a wonder is it nicknamed "The Information Highway".I have marveled at the information found on the net. One day I just started typing in weird words to see what would come up from search and as usual learned a lot of new things. The net these days is akin to a school. A school is where you learn and now most of my information, what I learn by, is from the net. I love to read and cuddle up with a good book but when I want info in a hurry it seems to be the net I go to. It is expeditious. It is certainly interesting and it is like having every book on the subject at your finger tips!

When you have questions, where do you go for the answers?

I go for answers to Google! There is even a new verb in Dutch but also in English: To google! When I don't know anything I say:" I google it"

Your post took me back by several years, reminding me of a tree at the turn in a road in a small town I grew up in. In bold white letters on the trunk was 'WHY'.

For months after that each time I passed the tree and saw the question posed I pondered, wondering WHY would anyone pose it to the world.

And there it was - WHY.

WHY on a tree on all places? Why?

I am a/was a public school librarian and guess where I go to find information... yep, the Internet. Even if I want to go to an encyclopedia I can find it online. However, there are many more locations than encyclopedias that offer up-to-date information. Of course, one must verify that information by searching at least 3 sources. Just because it's on the "net" doesn't make it true. But, having said that, I "google" for a lot of information.

Good post & good questions.

Hi Lorac,
Thank you for visiting My Muskoka , and my Reflections blog. I felt I should do the same for you!
I have crusaded for people to check what they read. I'm with Lizzy: check 3 sources for verification. They say that the Internet is the Garbage Sale in cyberspace. You really have to check the source of anything you read. I had been teaching 25 years as the 'net made its way into our classrooms. I found people were willing to believe everything they read.

For example, for medical info ensure the writer has qualifications, or is a university. The big thing now is targeting seniors, who are surprisingly active on the 'net.
There was a discussion, written by a US doctor, and their issues with universal health care has spawned some awful lies out there.
This same Dr. has now hosted a haiku contest, but it isn't true haiku! It's really bad...
good post. I have now subscribed to you!

I google ! I find that it saves me a lot of time! I don't turn to friends first.. they sometimes frustrate me. We often forgot the original question after spending 45 min chatting about something else.

I read, but I also google. The only problem with the net is the never ending quantity of information. I'm a cat, so by nature I'm curious. I can spend days on her computer pawing through this and that, purrrrrrrrr, till she comes home and I have to behave.
